My Woo Diaries - Not an introvert anymore

Being one of those people who believe in love at first sight or rather love at first status is getting difficult by the day. Not a lot of the opposite sex, seem to agree with my ideology; and those who do – well, I’m still looking for them. Weary of being called a loner and ‘forever alone’ (and being tagged in silly Facebook memes) I decided to do something about my companionship status.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, this is how I had my first rendezvous with Woo. Well, this and the intervention my friends called, just for me.

I still remember the cold Saturday evening when I ruefully decided to delete my cooking app to make space for Woo (talk about smartphone woes). Let’s be honest, what I saw on Woo was indeed surprising.

You know how you’re conditioned in thinking that online dating apps are for hooking up and last minute dates for that cousin’s party you’re dreading? Yeah, that’s not true! *lets out a sigh of relief*

No blurry images, no weird screen names (like Macho Man) – Woo was not just another dating app. The slightly feminist (and I say this with pride) app verified my details and shortlisted some guys basis my preferences and choices.

At first, I was finicky about ‘liking’ a guy but, after much speculation and weighing my options I did it. To my surprise, I got a like back and we matched! No awkward first meet trauma! I could totally be my sarcastic self and not be judged for it.

Chatting for a bit, led me to the question cast option – there was my Eureka moment!

A demisexual and an admirer of poems, the first question I popped on the app was - any Rumi fans ready to talk beyond the ideas of wrongdoings and right doings? Once again, I expected nothing and I managed to get something. There are a few like-minded weirdoes out there (Eureka moment number two).

We exchanged every famous Rumi verse. It was mystical and miraculous.

Another thing that I really liked about the app was that geo-targeted matching is optional. So, if you wish to stay away from the men in your vicinity, you can opt out for it.

When the outside world thinks, a girl sitting alone in a cafe on her phone is tad bit immature; I am in reality, virtually enjoying intellectual conversations with people who are quick-witted, ingenious and brainy. Who knows, one of these days I might actually have a cup of Lattè with a shot of hazelnut with my Woo-er in the same old dainty cafe.

Going with a mindset of finding ‘The One’ might not always work but, thinking about finding a best friend or a companion may actually do wonders for you and your love life.

Bringing out the best in me, Woo cracked the code and got me hooked to it encouraging the latest tech-based courtship, matchmaking, and a place to find benign friends. Well, guess who is not so lonely anymore.
