#WhatsNewin2022- Fashion

Discussing #WhatsNewin2022, digital creators predict fashion trends that will rule in 2022. And here's what they have to say!

One might think that fashion must have taken a backseat over the last few years considering people preferred time indoors due to the pandemic. However, that's not the case! The world of fashion is highly dynamic. In 2021, we saw various fashion trends ruling on social media. From printed to oversized dresses, from the y2k aesthetic to the craze for all things pastel, we experimented with it all in 2021. What lies ahead of us though? For fashion-lovers, we spoke to digital fashion creators on Instagram to learn #WhatsNewin2022 to help us plan that next solo date night outfit!

Here's what they predicted!

Simmy says, "Fringed jackets, shrugs, and denim, in my opinion, will be popular in 2022. Inspired by Balmain and Burberry, but more wearable and street-style without going overboard. It will also extend to accessories such as bags and belts. It'll add more jazz when layered. I already see retailers jumping onto the fringe style trend. We saw the onset of the y2k trend in 2021. That mainly focused on accessories like bags and jewellery. However, in 2022, I feel more things from the y2k aesthetic, such as graphic tees, will make a comeback with very strong statements."

Commenting on which colours will trend, Simmy mentions, "The fashion trend I see going big is more of pastel shades for every colour. Gone are the fuchsia pink days - whether it's day-to-day wear or even for extravagant occasions. Pastels are coming in and taking over gradually, but they're here to stay."

Krishen echoes similar sentiments when he says, "In my opinion, we should look forward to bold-coloured statement prices and classy cutout silhouettes. These include crazy cutout dresses, shirts and vivid coloured chunky accessories. We’re seeing fashion houses really experiment with the y2k aesthetic as well and that could easily take over 2022."

Shiv Pandey vouches totally for slack suits. He mentions, "The trend that might get popular in 2022 is pants-suits (Slack Suit). It is very formal, classy, elegant and most importantly, unisexual. As we are beginning to work offline again, bright-coloured slack suits will trend. Be it work, study or wedding, slack suits are the go-to thing. My tip: Try to go with formal shoes or pair of heels for the final touch."

Harshala Patil also favours cutouts. She says, "If you ask me, I think 2022 is going to be all about cutouts. Be it a dress, top, pants, you will find interesting cut out patterns. Leather again is in and how! It’s the new denim in my opinion. I think 2022 spring and summer will be full of pops of colours and gigantic sleeves- balloon, puff, etc."

Viraj Desai believes that Cyberpunk fashion will rule 2022. He says, "People are trying to explore streetwear and mix-match it with their own style and I think that’s really amazing and would boom this year! Cyberpunk fashion has not been explored properly in India and I think this is the year that people might really try out Cyberpunk fashion and it gets its popularity! Fashion trends like minimal fashion with monochrome outfits as well as different colour combinations that go well together might work this year!"

Viraj brings in a unique point of view when he mentions thrift shops. He mentions, "The trend of thrifting is growing and people are going out much more to thrift shops! Upcycling one's old clothes into something new is definitely gonna be a popular trend!"

Sanchit Kalra takes us through why oversized t-shirts with big, bold graphics will rule. He says, "I think big graphics on oversized tees will trend since oversized tees are already in. People are moving back to maximalism in fashion and hence big graphics will make the wave. The graphics will be more eclectic and out there. There will be a lot of cyberpunk vibes emerging in 2022."

Speaking about fashion trends that are stylish yet comfortable, Sanchit says, "Another big trend is gonna be cargos. People have started shifting to clothing that’s comfortable and functional which is best done by cargos. They give you great storage and look amazing in street style. Talking about utility, people will start investing in functional carry bags like chest rigs and tactical vests. I'm glad the fanny bag trend is dead and has been reclaimed by dads. Now people will start wearing rigs that help give additional storage as well as make a fashion statement."

Speaking of accessories, he says, "Men are slowly starting to treat accessories as unisex and a lot of my followers have started shifting to petal necklaces and long earrings and started embracing aesthetics."

We are really excited to try out these trends; what about you?
