Well, when better than Diwali to gather everyone and give it a much-needed K-twist nobody saw coming!
Just like us, Korean culture too has some staple games that they’ve all played growing up and they’re rather fun! If you’re an avid K-drama or BTS fan, you must have seen the characters go all out during a game scene or BTS get super competitive with one another on their variety show ‘Run BTS’. Thanks to them, we’re now well-versed in games that we never even thought we would be. Speaking of games, Diwali is approaching soon, and it’s the time when we gather with our loved ones and indulge in a round of games we like. But it has become monotonous to play the same game of Housie or Poker. To make it more interesting this year, this Diwali, maybe all of us could try our hand at popular Korean games, which are the perfect set-up for laughter and a good amount of chaos during this festive season!

Here are some that’ll be rather fun to try out!
Cham! Cham! Cham!
This game has made it to literally every Korean show possible! The goal is to make your opponent face the direction you point towards, and of course, he will resist and look in the opposite direction in order to win. It starts with a round of rock-paper-scissors, and the winner gets to choose the direction while the loser has to look the other way.
Gawi-Bawi-Bo
Gawi-Bawi-Bo is basically the Korean version of rock-paper-scissors but the twist here is that you play with both your hands. You could have rock in one hand and scissors in the other and depending on which gesture your opponent has also gone for, you decide which hand to bring forward.
Red Light, Green Light
A game that got widely popular due to Squid Game was actually something that has been a part of Korean culture for eons. Unlike all the killing and trauma attached to this game because of the series, it is actually quite light hearted and fun to play. One person closes their eyes and stands against the wall. There is a small dialogue that he has to say in Korean, it’s the famous one from the show as well. This is when other players can run and stop, the goal it to arrive till the tagger and run away or else you’ll be captured by him.
Halli Galli
Since Diwali and card games go hand in hand, this one’s right up the ally for us! Halli Galli is a speed action game in which players look for sets of five fruits. The minute they see it’s a set of five, they immediately have to press the buzzer. The one who presses first, wins.
Dalgona cookie game
Another one from the hit Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ is the Dalgona cookie game that Koreans love to play! It might look super easy to do but when it actually comes down to it, it’s rather tough. Basically the players are given a Dalgona cookie and inside the cookie there will be a particular shape. The shapes are usually a circle, an umbrella or a star and the players have to cut the cookie exactly in that shape. If the cookie breaks they lose, if they somehow manage to get the perfect cutout, they win!
I am Ground
A game where you attack and defend by shouting out names and clapping in the beats of 4. In the beginning everyone introduces themselves to the beat, chooses a nickname for themselves, and the game starts. It goes on till only one person remains.
Animal Kingdom
Choose an animal of your choice and make up a gesture related to it. Once you’re done doing your own gesture, it’s the next player’s turn to do his. There will be five matches and the speed keeps increasing as you go higher in rounds which is what creates a comedy of errors.
