Paris authorities fined for employing "too many women"
The Public Service Ministry of France fined authorities in Paris city for appointing too many women in senior positions in 2018 given the French law which aims at maintaining the gender balance. A fine of 90,000 euros ($109,408) has been levied on the authorities for appointing 11 women and 5 men in top positions. Paris Mayor, Anne Hidalgo, has criticised the fine.
Canada launches its COVID-19 vaccine
Canada joined the league of nations who have administered doses of the Coronavirus vaccine. Five frontline workers were given the doses in a Toronto based hospital. The Canadain government has signed a contract with Pfizer and BioNTech due to which they will receive 249,000 doses of vaccine every month.

Tablighi Jamaat: Delhi Court frees all accused
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arun Kumar Garg, on 16th December 2020, acquitted all 36 foreigners who were accused of spreading Coronavirus by participating in Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin in March 2020. The judge ruled that the foreigners were not present during the Tablighi event and were falsely prosecuted.
Farmers Protest: Update
Farmers continue to protest on the 23rd day since the protest began. Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar informed PTI that informal talks are being carried out with farmers to diffuse the situation. Until now, 20 farmers have passed away while protesting.

Actor Dhanush to make his international debut with Russo brothers' "The Gray Man"
Actor Dhanush took to Twitter to announce that he will be joining the cast of Netflix's thriller "The Gray Man". The film will be directed by the The Gray Man and will star Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas among others. The film is an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s 2009 novel of the same name. "Sarabhai vs Sarabhai" has an unofficial copy; angers the team
The writer-director of the famous Indian TV show "Sarabhai vs Sarabhai", Aatish Kapadia, took to Facebook to express his anguish about an unofficial remake of the show in Pakistan. The writer said the Pakistani TV show is not inspired by the original show but copies it blatantly. Aatish has urged people to now view the copied show. Read more about it here.

Chennai couple sends "Shaadi ka khaana" home for an enjoyable virtual wedding experience
In the era of virtual marriages (thanks to Coronavirus), a Chennai couple sent food to the guests along with invitation cards so that no one feels left out. An elaborate Kalyanam Saapad was sent to the guests including 12 dishes in total and Twitter was mighty impressed. Read more about it here.

Olympics bans Russia from using its name, flag or anthem for two years
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Russia will be banned from using its name, anthem and flag at the next two Olympics games and other world championships. This ruling comes after it was found that Russian authorities tampered a database from the Moscow testing laboratory before delivering it to the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Yogasana is now an official competitive sport in India
Indian Sports Ministry has recognised Yogasana as a competitive sport. This will allow the sport to get government funding. Yoga will also be included in future Khelo India Games programme.
