We talk about Indian choreographer and social media influencer, Vaishali Arora for today's Friday Follow. Check out her journey with dancing!
There are only a few activities in life that we enjoy doing without feeling embarrassed no matter how bad we might be at it. Singing in the shower and dancing when your favourite jam plays is just one example. While singing can make the people around you a tat bit frustrated at how bad you are, it's not the same with dancing. If you're at a gathering and one person decides to get up and shake a leg, everyone else will join them without question. There is a sense of togetherness and freedom that we associate with dancing and we love it. But there are many who have taken up dancing as their career, studying and perfecting each style. Indian choreographer and social media influencer Vaishali Arora has embraced dancing and has dedicated her life to it.
Based out of Kolkata, Vaishali Arora found her love for dancing right at the age of 4. Her family realized her knack for dancing when she was a child because of her ability to remember and perform iconic hook steps by just watching it once. Vaishali discovered her passion for dancing and stage presence when she was a student at Delhi Public School, Ruby Park. From there on, there was no looking back for her. Fests, competitions, choreographies she made sure to not miss any opportunity to cut a rug.
"I've always found it very interesting. Dancing gave me a sense of identity even when I was a child. And ever since I choose it, the journey has been both tough and fun because there is a lot of competition when it comes to this profession. In that sense, social media played a very crucial part as it gave me a good opportunity to reach a much wider audience."
Her family have always been supportive of her decision to take up dancing as a full-time career. Even on days when she felt demotivated, she finds encouragement from them. While her family stands by her decisions, she also has her set of friends who genuinely appreciate and look forward to her work.
Despite all these years of being in the profession, she believes that one should continue to perfect themselves in the field of their liking. It's nearly impossible for one to learn everything about their profession because there is always some room for improvement. "Some days routine could be really busy with no time to think or even eat but some days can be rather empty, with absolutely nothing to do."
As a dancer there she looks up at other fellow artists and choreographers who inspire her work. According to her, artists like Himanshu Dulani, Chow En Lai, and Simi Talsania always bring something fresh to the table. She believes that it can be quite a struggle for an artist to always be creative in the content that is put forth. But the need to do so is what keeps them going.
Another thing that makes it all worth the struggle is the positive response she receives from her followers online. Talking about this, she says, "I received a lot of comments and messages. I get it daily and that is really the best part of putting myself out there on social media. If I’m having a bad day I just read their messages or comments. People engage not just from India but from all around the world. There was this one girl who messaged me saying that she had left dancing but started it again only after seeing my video. Another moment that is the most special one was when Madhuri Dixit said that she loved my choreography and considers dance as important as I do.. so that was special."
Her need to learn something new always keeps her invested in her profession. Vaishali says that she's always too restless and dissatisfied as an artist. She doesn’t want to limit herself to dancing. And there are a few things that she is going to explore. As a message to all the aspiring artists, Vaishali says, "Consistency is key but then creativity cannot be forced so let it flow. Always remember why you started what you started."
