Netizens enraged over Uttarakhand CM’s comment on women wearing ripped jeans

According to a recent speech, by the Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat, women who wear ripped jeans are not 'Sanskari' in nature. Check out now netizens reacted to the statement.

In a recent speech by the Uttarakhand's CM Tirath Singh Rawat remarked on the types of clothes that a woman wears. On Tuesday at a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun, the newly appointed CM made a controversial comment regarding women. He remarks on women wearing ripped jeans paves the way for societal breakdown and is a result of the ‘bad example’ that parents set for their children. This remark has created quite a stir on social media.

Though this is not the first remark made on what a women wear or what makes someone 'Sanskari'. Wearing shorts, crop tops, deep cut necks, sleeveless, backless or any sort of clothes that shows your skin is not considered 'Sanskari'. Unless of course, it's a saree or a lehenga or a suit basically any Indian piece clothing might just save you from the moral policing. Might bring the keyword here. Showing skin by wearing western clothes is considered to be as provocation. Be it the 'Khap Panchayat' or other men in influential and powerful positions or even just online trolls, they’ve found ways to express their disapproval and distasteful remarks on the clothing choices of women; when it’s something they should have no say over at all.

People on social media are enraged after hearing the remark of the CM and are worried how such comments affect those who look up to and follow a such people in power.

Look how the netizens, including some big names are reacting to this:

Netzines have also started posting pictures of themselves in ripped jeans with hashtag #rippedjeans to show support and solidarity. It’s high time we change the regressive mentality of people rather than someone's choice of clothes.
