Gauri Lankesh's murder

The morning of 6th September 2017 began on a deeply tragic note as news of staunch critic and detractor of right wing fanatics, Gauri Lankesh’s murder, spread.

The blame game on Twitter is disheartening to watch as we realize this is what our nation has descended to. Reports of Gauri Lankesh’s murder have polarized journalists, politicians, political activists, eminent personalities, enthusiasts and the everyday right/left wing supporter.

While the BJP IT Cell has gone into maximum overdrive trying to prove that Gauri was writing an investigative piece about Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, whereas Siddaramaiah’s party and the BJP’s weakened rivals, Indian National Congress are using the opportunity to attack their rivals.

Popular BJP supporters on Twitter such as Sonam Mahajan and Sir Ravindra Jadeja (parody) have been quick to push out the idea that their political rivals had a part to play in the incident, and that Gauri Lankesh was a Naxal sympathizer, whereas the official Indian National Congress Twitter handle was quick to attack the BJP-RSS faction.

Gauri Lankesh's murder

It is truly appalling that this is what we have become. Agendas are pushed; fake, malignant and discrediting lies are spread in the wake of a tragedy. Politics is dirtier today than it has ever been, and a tool that was intended to boost communication, and an exchange of ideas has been reduced to a political propaganda machinery.
