Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the trailer for CTRL, starring Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat was recently released, hinting at a deep dive into the dark side of the digital world that has increasingly taken control of our real lives.
With rapid technological advancements, it's become evident that the day may not be far when technology completely takes over us. Think about how dependent we are on our mobile phones, unable to function without them even for a minute! However, CTRL paints a much scarier picture of this digital takeover—one that we might not have even imagined. Reminding you of shows like Black Mirror and films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Searching, Vikramaditya Motwane's CTRL explores the unsettling potential of AI, an intelligence created to help us but with the terrifying ability to take complete control of our lives.
According to the trailer, Nella (Ananya Panday) and Joe (Vihaan Samat) are the internet's 'IT' couple whose entire lives are on display for the world to have access to. However, when Joe, part of the #NJOY couple, cheats on Nella, she ends up live recording everything for the entire world to see and comment on. Heartbroken, Nella turns to an AI app called Take Control Over Your Life. What starts as a request to remove her ex from her life, spirals out of control as Joe disappears in real life, raising the unsettling question: has AI taken over her reality entirely just because she granted access to take control of her life and happiness?

On October 4, 2024, only on Netflix, we'll see how Nella deals with this war with technology on which she is so dependent. Until then, here's what the makers and the actress had to say about the film!
Director Vikramaditya Motwane - "CTRL has been a totally unique journey for me and the team. It's told in what we call the screen life format, which is telling a story in an almost voyeuristic way using the tech that we use literally every single day. Our goal has been to create this incredible immersive experience, and Netflix as a platform has helped us reach our global audience."
Ananya Panday - "My character Nella, is like any of us. She's caught up in a world dominated by technology and social media. CTRL explores how we navigate the fine line between our online presence and who we are in real life. Working with Vikram sir and Nikhil sir has been an incredible journey, and I can't wait for you to watch it on Netflix and uncover the connection between Nella and Allen."
Director of Original Films at Netflix, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh - "We think technology helps us have it all under control. But does it? CTRL navigates these vital questions in today's digital-first age. We're excited to bring this thrilling Netflix original to audiences worldwide through Vikramaditya Motwane's unique lens. Ananya Panday's compelling performance elevates the film, making it nearly impossible to pause this gripping experience. We hope viewers across the globe will connect with CTRL and the diverse storytelling we strive for at Netflix."
Producer Nikhil Dwivedi - "Collaborating with Vikram and Ananya has been an extremely pleasant experience. I quite believe Vikram is a very unique talent, and Ananya is proving herself to be quite a superior artist with every passing work of hers. Vihaan is equally impressive and he's somebody to watch out for. When Vikram brought this script to me, I observed that it had an extremely innovative narrative and it was something I really wanted to back and now I am very eager to see it as a full feature and how it resonates with wider audience all across the world. I am very excited that it is premiering on Netflix because it will make it truly a global platform with such a wide reach of 190 countries."
