As per the trailer’s description, 12th Fail is an incredible, inspiring real-life story of a boy from Chambal who aims to achieve an impossible dream of passing the entrance exam of the Union Public Service Commission.
A government job is every Indian’s dream; it provides two things we love and need the most - financial security and respect. But in a country of billions where seats in almost every discipline are limited, the road to success is full of hardships. And it is even worse for those belonging to marginalised communities. If you live in a remote Indian village, access to even clean toilets is a luxury, let alone studying in credible colleges or coaching classes. Those with privilege will always be closer to success. How does one, against the odds and a poorly built education system, secure a government job then? How does one, secure a post in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or Indian Police Service (IPS), especially when millions are fighting for a limited number of jobs? This is the difficult but crucial question that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next film, ‘12th Fail’ asks, according to its trailer.
Directed by Chopra, 12th Fail revolves around Manoj Kumar Sharma (Vikrant Massey), a poor boy from the village of Chambal who goes to Delhi in hopes of joining the IPS. With very little money and safety but a lot of determination, Manoj sets out to study for IPS while doing odd jobs for survival. But in a race that is rigged with privilege, how will he make it?
As per the trailer’s description, “12th Fail is an incredible, inspiring real-life story of a boy from Chambal who aims to achieve an impossible dream of passing the world’s toughest civil services entrance exam, that of the Union Public Service Commission.” The trailer looks riveting and moving as Massey seems to be delivering an impressive performance. It promises to ask some really tough questions to India, its class and its education system.
The film will release in theatres on October 27, 2023.
