These Indian drag artists are entertaining the audiences while spreading awareness about drag in India.
Drag has always been a part of Indian culture. From people dressing up as the opposite sex for plays to artists wearing elaborate makeup to perform traditional art in the most remote villages, drag was always present in some form or the other. This culture of drag has now become a major part of the LGBTQIA+ representation around the globe. Over the years, we have seen various Indian drag artists who are representatives of the Indian queer community, stunning people with their incredible performances.
One show that was able to portray the magic of drag to the world was RuPaul’s Drag Race. The show familiarised the art form to the world while suggesting how powerful and liberating it can be. Indian drag artists are doing their best to show off their amazing performances and spreading awareness about the art and the community. Today as we celebrate International Drag Day, we made a list of some of them.
