Artists today are creating content on mental health conditions like anxiety to spread awareness and destigmatize this disorder.
Living with anxiety is nothing like feeling anxious from time to time. Most of us don't know the difference between the two and that's precisely why we have #MentalHealthAwareness as a trending hashtag to this very day. Feeling afraid or nervous about asking dad whether you can go for a sleepover vs perpetually living in fear that something is going to go wrong around you, can you now see the difference between the two? That's what feeling anxious and having anxiety look like, respectively.
I've been going for therapy for the past three years to learn how to deal with precisely this, so trust me when I say that living with anxiety is really hard. It requires constant affirmations, journaling, putting in the inner work to heal from trauma, and meditating daily. It needs you to show up for yourself, set boundaries, and slow down enough to understand what you need.
Contrary to popular belief, anxiety is not a trend that people are wanting to hop onto today. Given the stigma around mental health, not too many people spoke about this openly earlier. Over the last few years, we've seen a lot more awareness about mental health thanks to celebrities and content creators taking to social media platforms to talk about their stories and struggles, be vulnerable and authentic, and normalizing this for the rest of us.
While this condition shows up differently for everyone, these artists will help you understand what it's like to live with it.
If you relate to any of these, we hear you! Hope you create a safe space for yourself and your loved ones and get help if needed.
