On Thursday, the famous daytime talk show host announced that the 19th season will be the last for The Ellen Show.
Ellen DeGeneres's talk show, The Ellen Show happens to be one of the most popular daytime talk shows that ran for 2 decades. However, the host and comedian announced on Thursday that the show will come to an end next year as it hits its 19th season. The show first aired in 2003 and went on to become a family favorite for 20 years. Ellen shared the news with her staff on May 11th and will be making it official on her show while discussing it with her fellow talk show host, Oprah Winfrey on May 13th. From pranking and scaring celebrities to giving away gifts to the audience and other guests, The Ellen Show gained successful ratings for so many reasons besides these.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ellen decided to end the show after she felt that it was not challenging her anymore. She said, “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.” She also said in her monologue while announcing the news that she always trusted her instinct and her instinct said that it was time. The show aired after the host faced a brief controversy after she decided to openly come out as gay on her sitcom Ellen. The controversy slowly died down after the show became an instant hit among people. It is also reported that her wife, Portia wanted her to move on before Ellen signed for three more seasons.
Last year, Ellen faced backlash from people after reports of her toxic work environment started doing rounds. She was criticized after accusations of harassment, racism, fear, and intimidation were reported by an anonymous former employee against the show’s executive producers. This led to an internal investigation that resulted in the top three producers of the show parting ways with the show. When asked if this had an impact on her decision, she said, "It almost impacted the show. It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very. But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season."
