Elon Musk's motorcar company makes an entry in India. Tesla India has set up its research and development unit in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and here's how netizens are reacting to it.
The famous US electric car giant Tesla that announced its entry in India in January made its entry in Karnataka. Tesla India registered itself in Bengaluru which is India's biggest hub for global technology companies. Karnataka's CM BS Yediyurappa welcomed CEO Elon Musk to the country and his state.
The motor company has been planning its entry since 2016 but with the changing import policies and dismal infrastructure for electric vehicles, the plans never worked out. Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Limited were incorporated on January 8 with its registered office in Bengaluru. The company has set up its R&D unit in Bengaluru and is in talks with five other state governments for its operations in India. The other states are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Indian unit has three directors as per regulatory filing including David Feinstein, who is currently a senior executive at Tesla, according to his LinkedIn profile.
According to the Transport Minister Mr. Gadkari, the Tesla Model 3 will be launched first in India. Model 3 is the cheapest among Tesla vehicles. Its prices will be starting at roughly โน 55 lakhs and the bookings will apparently start in January.
