Designer and Queer Eye co-host, Tan France teams up with brand incubator THMBL to launch his new genderless brand 'WAS HIM'.
The Queer Eye co-host and Next In Fashion judge, Tan France has gone back to his fashion roots with the launch of his new genderless outwear brand 'WAS HIM'. We've watched him transform people's wardrobes and give their style a revamp and this style expert has finally come up with a new brand that gives fashionable coats his own touch. Tan has been a part of some major brands in the past, designing and working closely with them until he decided to give up everything and retire at 33. But after he left, he found himself gaining popularity with his Netflix series that went on to become a household name. And now he's back to designing with his new brand along with brand incubator THMBL that adds style and aesthetics to outwear.
Tan decided to give one of the most important elements of clothing during the winters aka coats a stylish take while keeping all its functionality intact. Besides keeping us warm during the season, coats are also an integral part of our style covering up most of what we wear and Tan highlights precisely that. He wanted to make a statement of his own. Talking about his brand he said that the inspirations for the designs came from his own Pakistani and English heritage.
He said as quoted in T&C, "Embroidery is a very important component of WAS HIM… my Pakistani/Indian people specialize in this beautiful craft, and I couldn’t create a brand that represents me without infusing that part of my heritage." Tan has also tried to include elements from his own personal life into the designs. The embroidery of the horses was specially created by his husband while the ombre patch pockets were an ode to the ranch at his in-law's place. He's tried to include his heritage and memories while keeping his vision for the future intact. Youtube Star and artist, Lilly Singh modelled for the designer as she graced the cover of InStyle Magazine with Tan France.
