On his death anniversary, we are remembering everything Sushant Singh Rajput was and the legacy he left behind with his untimely demise.
Last year, this time was tough upon us, we were already dealing with an unknown virus, we had lost two gems Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor consecutively. The tears hadn't even dried out from hearing the sudden demise of these two gems when just after some time a piece of shocking news came in of Sushant Singh Rajput's sudden demise. The news took the country by its grip as we all could not bring ourselves to accept the fact that he left us so soon. After a long time, SSR changed the Hindi Cinema once again proving that a TV actor can still make it big in the industry. With his talent, charm, intelligence, warmth, dedication, and smile he became the breaker of chains and landed straight into our hearts.
From being Prem's brother in Kis Desh Mein hai Meraa Dil to being Manav in Pavitra Rishta, TV recognized and gave him his start. But the depth of his acting skills was explored through his films, from his first film, Kai Po Che, to his last, Dil Bechara. While with each film and the character, he left a mark, he received maximum laurates from people as well as critics for M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. He left a huge mark in the short span of his career and made a space for himself that will never be filled. Moreover, he revolutionized the definition of being a hero by being the protagonist in unknown projects or being a supporting character in an ensemble. Moreover, he gained respect for selecting the projects he was interested in rather than commercial.
His loss was and is felt by the entire country and he will always be remembered. He brought characters to life whether it was in Sonchiriya, PK, Shuddh Desi Romance, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Kedarnath, Chhichhore, or Raabta. But the legacy he left behind is so much more than just his charming smile and fleshed-out characters, it’s about the human he was. The one who wrote, read, and share his knowledge, the one who unconditionally loved, laughed, lived to its fullest in moments, loved stars and space, broke stereotypes, stood up for one social cause after the other, and left us with a void that can’t be filled.
In a short time, with his versatility, his humanness, and beyond the amazing talent, he made a place for himself and gave us films that will always be tressured. And while his loss will forever be mourned, we also know that we will always keep him alive by what he left us with.
