Pandit Jasraj who strengthened the Indian cultural space passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 90 in New Jersey, USA. His demise is a huge loss to the world of Indian classical music.
The Legendary Indian Classical Vocalist, Pandit Jasraj was awarded Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honour in the year 2000 for his excellent contribution to the Indian Classical Music and Culture. He also received Padma Shri in 1975; Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987 and Padma Bhushan in 1999.
"With profound grief, we inform that Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji breathed his last this morning at 5.15 EST due to a cardiac arrest at his home in New Jersey, USA," a statement issued by his family read.
He won't the hearts of every classical music lover with his soulful performances for many years and also wrote music for some Bollywood films. As an exceptional mentor to vocalists, he has trained some musicians to become the best in their league.
He was an unparalleled Classical Vocalist whose many notable stage performances were converted into music albums. He travelled around the world to teach music in several countries.
