Instagram launches new features and Creator Lab to improve tools and support for Gen Z creators. Explore what's new in store for you.

On August 29th, Instagram launched a new educational resource for aspiring creators called Creator Lab and shared information about the numerous product features released in recent weeks. 

Paras Sharma, Director, Global Partnerships, Meta, India, stated, “On Instagram, we're focused on providing an experience that allows you to connect with others over shared interests. We take feedback from young people seriously, and it shapes many of our decisions - from the features we launch to our newly launched Creator Lab, which aims to empower creators to express themselves freely and succeed in their own unique way.”

Newly launched features on Instagram 

The company, Meta, shared trends from this year that set the stage for some newly launched product features. One notable trend is how GenZ is posting photo dumps that are less 'me-centered'. 

To supercharge your photo dumps, Instagram has: 

  • New creative text tools to make your Posts, Reels & Stories more engaging

  • Increased the carousel size to 20 pieces of content

  • An option to add music to mixed media carousels

GenZ enthusiastically engages with content that solicits an action from them. This is why passionately participants in 'Add Yours' templates.

Instagram also recently launched:

  • Add Yours Music, Frames and the Reveal stickers - which respectively require an action to be taken by the viewer. 

Lastly, looking at how music is driving creativity and connections on Instagram, Instagram has released: 

  • Music on Profile

  • Music in Content Notes

  • Multitrack Audio on Reels, which gives the audience the option to add up to 20 tracks to a single reel.

Launching creator lab to support aspiring content creators 

Since 2019 Instagram has been investing in educational resources for creators. The creator education and enablement program, Born on Instagram, facilitates this education at scale. Now, in an effort to update the educational content on Born on Instagram, the platform is launching Creator Lab, a new resource for aspiring creators. Creator Lab will contain content from creators, who share their experiences and insights, including what they wish they had known when they started and what they have learned through trial and error. 

14 content creators will be featured in the content on Creator Lab, who represent diverse geographies, genres, and growth journeys. Some of them are Aabir Vyas, Govind Kaushal, Meethika Dwivedi, Raghav Sachhar, and The Vixens Crew. The creators will share takeaways around three themes that are essential to achieving sustained success:

  • Expressing yourself: how to use Instagram’s new tools and features to help express yourself creatively. 

  • Building community: how to create meaningful connections and build a loyal following.

  • Growing long-term: how to play the long game, monetize your content and set yourself up for a sustainable career.

The content is available in English and Hindi, depending on the comfort of the creators who are part of the videos. Going forward, more content will be added to the Lab, and the content will also be captioned in 6 Indian languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Hindi.
