Ever wonder what your favorite content creators' nicknames are? We matched Snapchat’s newly launched India’s Top Nicknames AR Lens to Popular Creators and the results are amazing!

A new study from Snapchat reveals that the majority of Indian Gen Zs and young Millennials love to use their nicknames online. And why wouldn't they? It's all about being effortlessly cool, protecting their privacy, and making names that are easy to remember. If their content is snappy, why not their names too?

Snapchat is all about embracing the joy and spontaneity of connecting with loved ones, and what better way to do it than by exploring the fantastic realm of nicknames? From Pinky, Shona, Baby to Golu, Bebo, and Akki – India’s immense love for nicknames is endless! The survey, conducted by YouGov on behalf of Snapchat, unveiled India’s top nicknames and inspired two new lenses on Snap – a Nickname themed Augmented Reality (AR) Lens called ‘India’s Top Nicknames’ and a custom lens called the ‘My Nickname’. We tried using the ‘India’s Top Nicknames’ lens, to check out which best suited our favorite content creators.

From the weird and wacky to the romantic and downright hilarious, let’s see which content creators got what Indian nickname!

Vishnu Kaushal as Sonu 

A popular name for young boys in North India, Sonu was reinforced into pop culture with movies like Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Style, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.  Known for bringing iconic characters like Mehul and Rimpy to life, Vishnu’s content takes you on a journey of nostalgia. Be it mocking Tejas for being the teacher’s pet or showing off your fancy new stationary to your classmates, his audience is always left yearning for the good old days. We also often see him use AR Lenses on Snapchat to bring his different characters to life, making him the perfect Sonu.

Prajakta Koli as Shona

Better known as ‘Mostly Sane’ Prajakta grew to fame with her YouTube vlogs chronicling her daily life. Ever since, she has evolved into a full-time actor bagging prominent roles in Netflix’s MisMatched and Ginny in Jugg Jugg Jeeyo. With her undeniable girl-next-door charm, Prajakta effortlessly embodies the spirit of the Shona nickname. This first interactive AR Lens India’s Top Nicknames includes five bespoke designs featuring India’s favourite nicknames - Sonu, Babu, Macha, Shona, and Pinky. Not only that, for the first time Indians can customize the ‘My Nickname’ lens to create their very own nickname. The two Nickname Lenses will be available on Snapchat in India from June 21. Just search for ‘IN’s Top Nicknames’ and ‘My Nickname IN’ in the lens carousel and simply point your phone to your face to get in on the fun.
