Russians have been informed that people taking the vaccine should abstain from alcohol. Netizens, as usual, have memes ready.
Russia achieved a feat by becoming the first country in the world to launch a vaccine against the deadly coronavirus. The vaccine, 'Sputnik V', came as hope for the country which has the fourth-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world. As per Russian health authorities, 10,000 people have taken the vaccine until now.
However, things got ugly when Tatiana Golikova, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, said to TASS News Agency that people will have to abstain from alcohol for 42 days after taking the vaccine. (Fun fact: As per the World Health Organisation, Russia is the fourth-largest consumer of alcohol in the world. The average Russian drinks 15.1 litres of alcohol annually.) There have also been different sources giving different information about the issue. Some sources say that one should not drink alcohol for two days before taking the vaccine whereas others say that you should not drink alcohol after 6 days of taking the vaccine. These news reports have enraged the Russians while citizens from other countries are finding this situation both hilarious and pathetic.
As usual, the internet could not stop itself from having a laugh! While some people took to Twitter for offering sympathy, others made memes.
