The clinical trials of the world's first coronavirus vaccine on volunteers at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University have been successfully completed, Vadim Tarasov, the director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology, according to Russian news agency Sputnik, adding that the first group of volunteers would be discharged on 15 July and the second on 20 July.
The trials began on June 18th by the university for the vaccine which is produced by Russia’s Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The main objective of the test at this stage was to prove its safety on human health which has become successful according to Alexander Lukashev, the director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Vector-Borne Diseases at Sechenov University. Any further development regarding the complexity of the pandemic and the need for possible scaling up of production is being determined.
“The safety of the vaccine has been confirmed. It corresponds to the safety of those vaccines that are currently on the market”, Alexander Lukashev, the director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical, and Vector-Borne Diseases at Sechenov University, told Sputnik.
