Starring Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rakul Preet Singh, Runway 34 was released in cinemas on April 29. Let's find out what the Janta thinks about this film!
Runway 34 is a thriller drama based on true events of the 2015 Jet Airways 9W 555 flight from Doha to Kochi where due to bad weather and poor visibility the pilot had to divert his route and make an unexpected landing at Trivandrum International Airport instead. This film marks the extremely talented and all-rounder Ajay Devgn's third directorial venture after U Me Aur Hum and Shivaay. He also plays the lead in the film as Captain Vikrant Khanna, the pilot who is responsible for being the savior of all the passengers on board. Amitabh Bachchan as Narayan Vedant, the chief interrogator of this case is in a constant face-off with Captain Vikrant and is determined to find out if there were any rules broken during the landing. Rakul Preet Singh as First Officer Tanya Albuquerque plays Captain Vikrant's co-pilot who faces all the scrutiny along with him. Boman Irani as Nishant Suri is the owner of the airlines. Carry Minati is seen as himself, playing one of the passengers on board and delivering funny punchlines. Angira Dhar plays Vikrant's lawyer and Aakanksha Singh plays his supportive wife. The film is written by Sandeep Kewlani along with Aamil Keeyan Khan and is produced by Ajay Devgn Films and Panorama Studios.
Before departing from Dubai to Kochi, the air traffic control warns Captain Vikrant and his co-pilot Tanya about bad weather conditions at the destination. When it was time to land, due to no visibility, they had to make an unexpected turn to Trivandrum's Runway 16. But Captain Vikrant decides to trust his instincts and puts his years of expertise to the test when he lands on Runway 34 instead, which came with a lot of high-level dangers and risks. The series of questions that followed for what possibly could have been a fatal incident for everyone on board is the main plot of the film. Why land in Trivandrum instead of Bengaluru? Is partying until late at night before flying an airplane morally ethical? Why land on Runway 34 and not Runway 16 as advised by the Air traffic control? AAIB's Narayan Vedant grills Captain Vikrant and his team with these heavyweight questions in the film and he has to justify his decisions and prove to everyone that he's worthy of being trusted with hundreds of lives on board. This movie would probably be Bollywood's first aviation courtroom drama and reminds us of Tom Hanks' Sully in a way.
