Over the years, Rohit Shetty has given us classic action comedies and created not only a niche for himself but his own universe of movies that are always whistle worthy entertainers for the audience!
While Bollywood was hitting it out of the park in the romance genre with one blockbuster after the other, action was something we still had to explore more often. Then entered Rohit Shetty, the son of a junior artist who worked as an assistant director on Ajay Devgn’s films and was also a stuntman. He had big ambitions of making his own movies and from assisting Ajay to featuring him in his debut film Golmaal, he came a long way. Golmaal was the first of its kind in the comedy genre. It actually had a mix of everything - suspense, thriller, romance and never seen before kinda action. Ajay Devgn standing on two bikes simultaneously became a craze amongst the youth and made us all wonder how Rohit Shetty directs these high octane action sequences. Golmaal then went on to have several sequels and became a hub of memes amongst the audience.
Chennai Express was also one of his biggest hits till date. But of course the film had Shahrukh and Deepika so it had to have a quintessential romantic touch to it, which probably also worked in the film’s favor. But with Ajay Devgn’s Singham he started his own ‘cop universe’ and extended it further with Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba and the most recent web series in the making with Sidharth Malhotra aka Indian Police Force. In his career which spans 17 years, he has managed to rope in the biggest stars in his cop world and give the audience a larger than life big screen experience with his films. He has truly redefined action comedy through his work and every film of his has a new, jaw dropping car or bike stunt to offer. All the Best, Bol Bachchan, and Dilwale are some of his other comedic directorials that fared well at the box office.
He is also a really good host and we’ve seen that in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi. This shows a more raw and fearless side of him and justifies why he is the best for making action movies. Today, if any director is making an action film, you know Rohit Shetty films are the benchmark for him and rightfully so!
