Taaza Khabar S2

Taaza Khabar Season 2 returns with Bhuvan Bam as Vasant Gawde. While this season has a different appeal from its predecessor, it introduces new elements and characters you might enjoy.

Bhuvan Bam is back with the much-awaited second season of his hit drama series, Taaza Khabar featuring a crazy good cast including Shriya Pilgaonkar, Prathamesh Parab and Jaaved Jaaferi.

To give you a spoiler-free overview, Taaza Khabar Season 2 picks up from where it left off. Vasant Gawde (Bhuvan Bam), after gaining the ability to foresee events, used his new power to make quick money much to the dismay of mafia boss Yusuf (Jaaved Jaaferi). He goes on to demand a whopping 1000 crore from Vasant leaving us wondering how Vasant will manage to get out of this impossible debt, if at all. The season opens with the other characters mourning Vasant’s apparent demise, but from there, the narrative quickly takes unpredictable turns and in the end, it all gives us a fairly satisfactory ending.

One of the biggest highlights of the show has to be Bhuvan Bam’s portrayal of Vasant. He completely owns the character, making Vasant feel both grounded and multifaceted. You see him as more than just a man with a superpower, but also as a friend, lover, and most importantly someone struggling with the consequences of his choices. While he shines as the protagonist, the supporting characters that where well fleshed out, with their own backstories in first season fail to get their due in this season. We see very little of their stories, mostly feeling like they’re just there to help Vasant with his problems.

Jaaved Jaafery as Yusuf is a major win for this season. His screen presence is commanding, bringing a sense of menace and gravitas that adds an element of thrill in the plot. There are moments when Yusuf overshadows Vasant and becomes the focal point you can't keep your eyes off. The way he plays a cunning, cold, and powerful antagonist makes him appealing as a villain. Shriya Pilgaonkar's character glistens through as she delivers a fairly good performance despite her less screen time this season. Prathmesh Parab continues to leave an impact and has his own mix of lighthearted and emotional moments.

Now, talking about the tone. If you’re expecting the same light-heartedness and comic moments from the first season, you might be in for a little surprised. Season two is much darker, dealing with more tragic storylines and unexpected twists that hit you out of nowhere. Personally, I enjoyed the shift to a more intense, raw narrative, but if you loved the humor and camaraderie in season one, you may feel that this aspect is missing a bit here. Another thing I really liked this season is the production quality. It’s clear the showrunners have upped their game. Aziz, Abbas, and Hussain Dalal’s screenplay gets more nuanced as it focuses on the story's darker elements, with dialogues that lighten up moments. The songs in the show, Laut Aane Ka and Paisa, are also beautifully placed, adding an emotional depth to major scenes without feeling forced. If you’re looking for an emotional rollercoaster with good pacing, strong performances and a good storyline, Taaza Khabar Season 2 is worth the watch.

Taaza Khabar Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
