Only Karan Johar can bring two timeless beauties from the 70s to the Koffee couch. In a series of actresses from the current generation, this duo was a much needed refreshing change and it was so insightful to hear them share their wisdom from working in the industry for so many years. They took us back to the golden time of Bollywood where there was no paparazzi and there was a mystery around the stars as the public didn’t know much about them. Even though most of us might not have watched half the movies they mentioned throughout the episode, it was the way they spoke and carried themselves that we can take inspiration from. The two are so different from each other and that’s what makes them yet another interesting pair to be on the couch this season! These living legends made an entry styled in black but in ways that were unique and like their personalities. While Neetu Kapoor went for a more boss woman vibe, Zeenat Aman looked like the epitome of elegance and poise.

Women are always pitted against each other and the 70s were obviously no different! News and magazines back then spread rumors about rivalries between leading ladies but Neetu Kapoor and Zeenat Aman were here to put those to rest. The ladies elegantly spoke about how even though they weren’t exactly besties they’ve always enjoyed each other’s company. They went to name the list of successful films they have done together and that really wouldn’t have been possible without a good experience on set. It was also not just their own equation that they dished about, it was also other actresses from their era like Rekha, Parveen Babi and Hema Malini who they spoke about so fondly. They fully repped successful women supporting other successful women even before it was a thing on the internet!

Zeenat Aman is an icon that we should treasure forever. Her wisdom and perspective on things are heartwarming and leaves all of us with some food for thought. When Karan Johar asked her how she felt about her success and her new found love on Instagram, she said ‘Success is a fickle thing’. ‘One day people will love you, then they’ll hate you, the next day they’ll forget you and then a few days down the line they’ll resurrect you again’. She doesn’t let it go to her head at all and neither does she base her self worth on it which is such an important reminder for today’s generation. 

The filming culture of the 70s 

Unlike now, the actors back then worked 2-3 shifts in a day. Which basically meant they hopped from one film set to another. In today’s time, actors give it their all to one character at a time and film for 3 months straight. Nobody can imagine how the actors in the 70s rolled from one character to the next one within the span of 24 hours. The actresses also shared how life was like behind the camera back then. 

Neetu and Rishi Kapoor’s relationship and her last few years with him

Neetu Kapoor had been in a relationship with Rishi Kapoor since a very young age. She reminisced about her time with him as a girlfriend and then as a part of the larger than life Kapoor khandaan. She spoke about how all his life Rishi Kapoor has always been the strict parent who could never become a friend to his kids but in his last few years in New York, he opened up to them like never before. There were really low days but then there were days where he went out partying, shopping and experiencing everything he hadn’t with his family before.

It’s so lovely to see how Zeenat Aman has made Instagram a place where she can be herself. She not only makes her long time fans nostalgic but she is also connecting with Gen Z like no celebrity ever has. When asked about how she has become the talk of the town because of her phenomenal social media presence, she said Instagram is a wonderful platform to be on if you use it in the right way and you don’t let it consume you entirely. She said she loves writing for the platform and the fact that people connect to her is just an added bonus she’s grateful for.
