Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 review: Only beauty and no soul makes these last 5 episodes rather anti-climatic

Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 review

Our favourite American, Emily Cooper is back with her constant content curation and boy drama all while conquering yet another city.

Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 review: One of the reasons I love getting lost in a chic flick is because it caters to everything I see myself becoming. I love the idea of taking over the world, reinventing myself, traveling for leisure while I'm struck with crazily fabulous ideas and feeling invincible in whatever I'm dressed in. And that's exactly what sucks you into the dreamy but otherwise empty world of Emily in Paris!

What I wouldn't give to be strutting around in something new everyday on the streets of Paris, being hella confused about my feelings for two men while I ideate 24/7 for my very many clients instead of pausing for a single second to be thinking about my feelings! I get it Emily, dealing with your feelings is hard! But how you've managed to keep yours at bay for 4 seasons, is horrifying and also commendable!

Just when you think that the last 5 episodes will finally give us something more than Emily and her peeps serving lewk after lewk, Part 2 resumes where season 4 part 1 leaves us - yet another of Emily's plans going up in flames! Instead of flying to Chicago to meet her family, she finds herself with Gabriel and Camille's family for Christmas and 20 minutes into part 2, this couple has already broken up! While Emily figures her love life out, you're left appreciating the supporting cast and the grey area all of them seem to be living and thriving in. Is Sylvie still in an open marriage after her husband moved back to Paris and is living with her? Who knows! Is Mindy still in love with Benoit while dating Nico? Who knows! What does Camille actually want? Your guess is as good as mine! The only character who has clarity in this show is Sylvie's husband's illegitimate daughter, Genevieve. She seems to be after everything Emily loves - her job and her ex boyfriend!

Having said that, I finally saw what this series has been trying to show me - beautiful, flawed women simply living and learning without being too afraid to mess up. Sylvie, Mindy and Emily are driven, they’re constantly chasing the next project, the next client; they aren’t defined by the men in their lives. And God, do more women need this! Then there's also Rome! I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with a city this fast! There’s no doubt that this season, like all the previous seasons, is shot well; these episodes shot in Rome are proof! They make you want to take the next flight out!

Fashion has always been a character in a series like this. Just like in Sex and the City, Gossip Girl and the recently released, Call me Bae. And while the Gen Zs are fangirling over Emily, someone bring me Sylvie’s wardrobe pronto! Her clothes say so much about her personality - she’s effortless, understands herself and she’s one with the city, unlike Emily, who feels like she’s a step away from having a massive melt down while she’s figuring her life out; something their respective wardrobes convey rather well.

You’d think it would be hard to notice the people around Emily, but part 2, just like the previous seasons, has moved their story forward quite well! Gabriel, Camille, Alfie and Mindy have enough screen time but their characters, just like Emily, lack heart!

Am I still waiting for Season 5? Hell yes!
