Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha

Neeraj Pandey's 'Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha' is a colossal waste of Ajay Devgn and Tabu's potential. Only Shantanu Maheshwari shines as the lead.

Yet another Friday, yet another disappointing Bollywood movie. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha—from the title to the plot, nothing makes sense. The story is straightforward and exactly what the trailer revealed: Krishna (Ajay Devgn) and Vasudha (Tabu) love each other. However, one night, when some men try to rape Vasu, Krishna kills them and goes to jail. He asks Vasu to move on, and she does. When he is released from prison, they meet again. There is a slight twist in the end for twist's sake, nothing you can't predict.

Let's face it: the only thing this movie's trailer could sell was the lead pair, Devgn and Tabu. After Drishyam, it seemed like it would be fun to watch them as a romantic couple. However, once the film begins, it only goes downhill. Shantanu Mishra, as a young Krishna, gives an adorable performance, while Devgn and Tabu try their best to salvage the movie. However, faced with cheesy dialogues, a highly unoriginal plot, exaggerated background music, and an extremely boring climax, there's only so much they can do.

The plot is basic and illogical. Krishna comes out of jail wearing clothes that look like they were bought on Myntra. At one point in prison, Krishna even says that it's dangerous outside, "Yahan zyada suvidha hai." Clearly, the director and writers are clueless about the conditions of Indian jails or have chosen to ignore the facts. Krishna doesn’t sound Jharkhandi, and Vasudha doesn’t sound Maharashtrian. Everyone else seems to be there just to worship Krishna: his friend loves him, his employer loves him, Vasudha loves him, and even Vasudha's husband, Abhijeet (Jimmy Sheirgill), loves him. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha promotes hero worship and the male savior complex in a romantic way. Moreover, the film uses sexual assault to further the hero's story, which is repulsive and should be done away with. For typical entertainment, some violence is thrown in, which is also unnecessary.

All these elements are needlessly stretched. You wait and wait, but nothing even mildly entertaining happens. The film lets down good actors, making it an extremely dull watch.
