Karan Johar has a peculiar style of filmmaking that makes love look so magical and here’s why we will never get tired of his movies!
Karan Johar has built a legacy for himself that will live on through generations. We love his movies because they are an extension of our imagination where pyaar dosti hai and it’s all about loving your family. His protagonists always give off main character energy which eventually becomes a huge part of pop culture. Case in point - Poo from K3G, a character who will live on forever. The sets, songs, the atmosphere, everything is always so grand and we are left feeling so starstruck by it all. We indeed want to be part of that world and because most of us have grown up watching these movies, it’s now a huge part of our personalities as well.
But what makes us all unanimously love Karan Johar movies? There are certain key elements that we have all noticed in his movies and that in fact is why we love watching them again and again. It has become a genre of its own that gives a fresh perspective to how we look at the idea of falling in love and marriage. Yes, it has spoiled us silly and raised our standards way too high but we’re not complaining. We love the escapism his movies offer and the feel-good vibe that come with it. In the span of 25 years in the industry, he has directed 8 movies and produced more than 50! His directorials are the ones that stood out in his career the most and these include his debut film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name is Khan, Student of the Year, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and his upcoming film this July, Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

And here's what all of these movies have in common!
Some love triangle drama
His movies have been the flag bearer of love triangles. From his first film itself, he had all of us divided in two teams. Rahul, Tina and Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and then Rohan, Shanaya and Abhi from Student of the Year remain two of his most talked about love triangles till date.
Celebrity cameos from the Dharma world
Every movie of his has had a celebrity cameo and we love those little crossovers. Be it Rani and Kajol in Kal Ho Na Ho, who he considers his lucky charms. Or Alia in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as a DJ!
Heart to heart conversations on benches
Remember Rohan and Rahul’s emotional scene on the bench? In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, it's established that Rahul, Tina and Anjali are in a love triangle, which also happens near a bench. For some reason benches have played an important turning point in his movies. Maybe because sitting next to someone you love and having a conversation has a particular warmth to it.
Songs about love that melt our hearts
From Suraj Hua Maddham to Ishq Waala love, we’ve all had butterflies in our stomach while listening to these songs and thinking of our crush
Making us believe an unrealistic world like that actually exists
Be it the school from Student of the Year to the huuugeee mansion in K3G, we all fell for the fact that these can totally be a place in India!
Larger than life introduction scenes for his main characters
He loves his main characters and you can see that through their introduction scenes. Poo's entry in K3G is of course the most iconic one that’s just engraved in our minds. Or Shahrukh when he comes home in a helicopter. Shanaya from Student of the Year too had a whole introduction song to herself!
Beautiful color palettes!
His frames are always filled with color, his songs in particular have that! Tum Hi Dekho Na, a song from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, beautifully represents every element of nature like water, fire, air, trees, and the fallen leaves. Both Rani and Shahrukh were wearing colors representing each of them.
You will always find a Rahul or a Naina in his films
You’re a true Dharma fan if you know this one! K3G, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, some of his path breaking films have either a Rahul or a Naina in them. Either we've wanted to date a Rahul or a Naina or be one!
His characters emote through their fashion
Fashion has been a pivotal part of his film maybe because it's so close to his heart as well. It has always stood out and has been recreated a plethora of times by the audience.
The iconic Dharma intro song before the movie begins
We know you can literally hear this picture!
Happiest Birthday to one of the one who gives us hope about finding love through his movies!
