It’s not even been half a day since the carpet was rolled out and the Met Gala 2024 is all that people can talk about. So without further ado let’s get into all the deets!
Just like every year, yet again, the first Monday in May aka fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala took over the city of New York and our entire social media feed. It is not just a night of fun and fashion where celebrities wear outfits put together by their stylists but also a fundraising event for the Costume Institute at the Met. Every year, there is a new theme and the celebrities who grace the red carpet come with their own interpretation of it. This year it was ‘Garden of Time’, which is inspired by English writer J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. This corelates with the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’. The Met Gala's theme isn’t just a dress code but a reason for history to be made on the carpet and inspire conversations way after the event is done. Every year, we look forward to this day to give our 2 cents on the looks from the comfort of our homes as well.
As mentioned earlier, the theme changes every year and so do the co-chairs. This year the event was co-hosted by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny, who of course joined none other than Anna Wintour who looks over every single detail of the event. Meanwhile Shou Chow, CEO of Tik Tok and Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe served as honorary chairs. There are debutantes on the carpet like Stray Kids was this year and then there are Met Gala veterans like Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, amongst many others who we see every year. Shockingly, Blake Lively who is popularly known to match her outfit to the color of the carpet every year was absent from this year's soiree. But what wasn’t absent from the carpet was a good amount of Indian representation. Alia Bhatt, Isha Ambani, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Natasha Poonawalla, Mona Patel beautifully portrayed the theme in their own ways.
