It looks like iconic reunions is the theme this season as Koffee with Karan episode 6 has brought back nostalgic memories about yet another classic film we all deeply love!
Koffee with Karan episode 6 which re-united Karan Johar’s first leading ladies, Rani Mukerji and Kajol, was no short of utter chaos and laughter. The two actresses spoke about quite a few things that we didn’t know about. Many behind the scenes stories from the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai days were told. The movie celebrated its 25th anniversary this year and of course this called for reminiscing the good old times. We, as an audience, might’ve loved Rani Mukerji’s fashion in the film but little did we know the effort it took her to fit into that orange skirt, or how it was Kajol who told Karan Johar on his very first day on set as a director to shout at her so everyone takes him seriously, how Karan Johar went shopping for Tina and Anjali’s wardrobe to London with Manish Malhotra and the funny incident that took place there. While we love the film with all our hearts and keep going back to it, there were so many anecdotes behind those iconic scenes that we didn’t know about until this episode happened. The Mukerji sisters also played a fun quiz where they didn’t know half the answers about their own films which made it a laughter riot for them and us!
But one of the main highlights of the episode wasn’t even what Rani or Kajol said, it was in fact the content creators who had some really funny things to say about how the film has impacted their lives, created unrealistic expectations and what the plot could’ve really been instead. Most of us might relate to what they said because as we grow older, we also know better. So, rightfully, they had a lot to dish about. Like how Sumukhi Suresh amusingly questioned, ‘Which warden of a girl’s hostel could ever be so lenient and nice?’ Or how Aadar Malik gave a fabulous idea about starting a dating app called ‘Anjali’ where kids can find a partner for their single parents. Karan Mirchandani whose video went viral on social media about how Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a murder mystery explained how Anjali and Rahul wanted Tina’s wealth so they kill her and write those letters to Tina’s daughter so everything looks like it was always what Tina wanted. It’s hilarious but also totally makes sense but also almost makes you wonder if this could've worked.
Danish Sait pointed out that there are two love triangles within the three hour film so maybe the film should’ve been called ‘Bahut Kuch Hota Hai?’. Kareema Barry had her own Gen Z take on how Rahul, Tina and Anjali should’ve lived together in a polygamous relationship. But the best of it all was when Kusha Kapila said that if Rahul couldn’t love Anjali with short hair and jumpsuits, he definitely doesn’t deserve her when she has ‘evolved’ either. She totally should’ve said yes to Aman who was more of a green flag than Rahul ever would be. Which is also a popular opinion on social media these days.
It was great to see Kajol and Rani’s reaction to what the younger generation had to say about the film. There are so many pop culture references from the movie, be it dialogues, Shah Rukh Khan’s cool chain, or his polo t-shirt and so much more that still remain relevant across generations after 25 years as well! It was a film that went beyond making sense of certain things and made us believe in everything seamlessly and this episode of Koffee with Karan was a celebration of that amongst many other reasons to get the dynamic duo back on the couch!
