The most prestigious award ceremony of the year just took place and here’s a list of every pivotal moment from the Oscars 2023!
Oscars 2023 has been a big night for the South Asian and Asian community in general when it comes to global representation. The Oscars are when the world gathers under one roof to celebrate the best of cinema and the powerhouses of talent who made them or starred in them get their due credit. With India winning two Oscars for RRR's Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whispers, our chests are beaming with pride and there's never been a more historic moment for us. We feel seen, we feel included, our stories feel appreciated, heard and loved. We're more than ecstatic to have witnessed this historic moment on live television. And honestly, who better than the gorgeous Deepika Padukone to present the RRR's performance at the Oscars? The way she described the song and the movie in her speech was so well put; it was the perfect mixture of sentiment and humor. Guneet Monga's documentary, The Elephant Whisperers also won an Oscar and its so encouraging to see Indian women up on stag. It gives the dreamers hope to keep believing in their dream. With the Oscars this year, we've truly proven ourselves as prolific filmmakers and put India on the map.
There were so many other highlights that grabbed some attention at the ceremony. Everything Everywhere All At Once took home 7 awards including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress & Actor and the biggest award of the night i.e. Best Picture. After the super bowl, Rihanna gave an unforgettable performance at the Oscars too. Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for The Whale. But the heartwarming acceptance speeches, the feeling of winning for the first time and expressing how you feel are the biggest take away from the night.
