The world turns orange as it unites to promote gender equality and to fight against the gender-based violence faced by women and girls around the world. A campaign by UNESCO, Orange The World, aims to stand against abuse and rape culture.
Violence against women has always been a major issue of concern. The world has become an unsafe place for them to live in with many facing physical, mental and economic abuse. Women and young girls face violence in the virtual as well as the real world with it becoming a major obstacle that has hindered with their freedom and liberty. And UNESCO campaign, Orange The World, aims to fight against the same.
In light of these atrocities faced by women around the globe, the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) observes the Orange day on 25th November to inspire the whole world to take action and stop the violence. It is 16 days of activism between 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and 10th December which is Human Rights Day. In order to shed light on this gender-based violence, UNESCO has selected orange as it represents a bright future that is free of any form of violence. It symbolizes the solidarity in eliminating them and creating a safer place for women and girls to live in.
