NMACC

From Gigi Hadid living her Bollywood dreams to Zendaya slaying in a saree, there’s so much that happened over the weekend at the NMACC opening!

The past weekend, all of us were starstruck by one of the biggest events in the city. We all know the Ambanis are technically modern day royalty and probably the only ones who have the power to bring in Hollywood and Bollywood stars under the same roof for one big celebration of Indian fashion, culture and art. Shahrukh Khan spoke so well in his interview, about the Ambani family being a trailblazer in the field of tech, medicine, sports and now even arts and culture and we simply couldn’t agree more. The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) definitely puts India on the map on a global front.

The centre is made to preserve Indian fashion where beautiful haute couture pieces from celebrated designers from all over the world, especially India have iconic pieces showcased there for not just fashion enthusiasts but also students of fashion. It's open to anyone in general who has immense love towards art. From classic pieces we’ve seen in Dharma movies made by Manish Malhotra like Kajols green salwar from DDLJ, Kareena’s cropped blouse and ombré palazzo pants from Bole Chudiyaan or Priyanka’s shiny silver saree from Desi Girl, all of them are at display for us to drool over. We definitely didn't see this day coming!

The exhibition also honours other ace designers like Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna, Anita Dongre, Arpita Mehta, Masaba Gupta and Kunal Rawal. Sonam Kapoor’s wedding lehenga is also archived at the centre so people can study the sheer detailing on it. The centre is a great hub for giving Indian artisans the recognition they deserve, giving people knowledge about the hard work that really goes behind making an outfit, the hours that they put in, the kind of work it represents and the meaning behind it. The centre also received a letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister for highlighting the essence of Indian culture.

Day 1 of the event consisted of a theatrical skit called "The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation" which portrays our nation's rich heritage. It was held at the auditorium which is said to have unprecedented sound quality and the look of it is very royal and vintage. The who's who from the movie, TV, and content creating industry was invited to witness the grand opening. Day 2 was an exhibition called 'India in Fashion' which showed India's impact on global high fashion. Day 2 was also when we saw Gigi Hadid wear a chikankari saree made by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla which she beautifully adorned with golden bangles. She seemed more than happy to be experiencing our culture to the fullest; from food, clothes to dancing with Varun Dhawan on a Bollywood song, she enjoyed it all! Speaking of International celebrities, Tom Holland and Zendaya were also present at the event and this is a big deal as the couple has never been spotted together at an event outside their movie promotions. Zendaya looked gorgeous in a saree made by Rahul Mishra in midnight blue with so much glitter that it made her shine like a star. Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz also flew down for the event and was seen in a pink feathered gown by Tamara Ralph.

Our movies are a huge part of our culture too and day 2 had all the major Bollywood stars like Varun Dhawan, Shahrukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, AP Dhillon, Alia Bhatt and Rashmika Mandanna setting the stage on fire in a filmy style. We've seen our favourite celebrities serve looks one after the other these past few days, right from the Dior Fashion Show to the NMACC opening, to the point where the vibe of Mumbai just felt so different. While there were 3 back to back red carpets and stars were doing justice to the name tinseltown, all of us were sitting on the couch, guilty of scrolling through all the looks and secretly feeling all the FOMO!
