Guillermo del Toro’s, Nightmare Alley with a stellar cast is a period piece about cons and tries to find out about “Is he man or is he beast".
Guillermo del Toro’s new noir thriller film Nightmare Alley's teaser trailer was released recently and it looks like we're in for an edgy period piece ride. With a stellar cast including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, and David Strathairn, this film will be coming out in December. The release date is not decided as of yet though.
With Willem Dafoe's background narration of constantly asking the question 'Is he man or is he beast', we see Bradley Cooper have a few tricks up his sleeve. Playing a nightclub and carnival performer, Cooper with his cold-reading techniques is able to convince the audience that he’s a mind reader. While people are charmed and believe him to be real, he’s just a con man. Cate Blanchett plays a psychiatrist who tries to expose Cooper’s character as a charlatan, only to become involved in his cons.
This gritty, mysterious noir period drama created by Guillermo del Toro is based on a 1946 book by William Lindsay Gresham. This was also made into a movie by the same name starring Tyrone Power in 1947. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Del Tori describes Cooper’s character as a “homme fatale” who manipulates and ensnares the film’s three strong female characters.
