As days 4, 5, and 6 transpired at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the French Rivieria seemed to be basking in the glory of stars with Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Nicolas Cage, Kiara Advani, and others!
After the highly anticipated premiere of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis and the much-talked-about film Bird, the Cannes Film Festival 2024 geared up for the weekend with premieres of other much-anticipated films and stars making their debut on the red carpet. The infamous French Riviera steps were dazzling with many stars like Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage, Demi Moore, Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, Cate Blanchett, Uma Thurman, Aishwarya Rai, Kiara Advani, Sobhita Dhulipala, Naseeruddin Shah and so many more. The screenings of the films like Yorgos Lanthimos's Kinds of Kindness, Shyam Benegal's Manthan, Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez, Paul Schrader's Oh Canada, and more premiered over the three days.

Aishwarya Rai's second look and Kiara Advani's red carpet debut!
Even though she had a broken arm, Aishwarya Rai seemed to be dazzling on the red carpet with her second look in another Falguni Shane Peacock ensemble. And apart from her, another Bollywood actress, Kiara Advani, was seen debuting at Cannes and walking down the red carpet.
Emma Stone's Kinds of Kindness and Selena Gomez's Emilia Perez
Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos collaborates again with Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone for Kinds of Kindness and While the director and the cast bedazzled on the carpet, they also received 5.5 minutes of standing ovation after the premiere. On the other hand, Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana's Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, made by Jacques Audiard, also premiered at the festival and received a thunderous 10-minute standing ovation, leaving the cast all teary-eyed. Both films are part of the main competition!
Manthan was screened at Cannes Classics and The Shameless at Un Certain Regard
India's first crowdfunded film by farmers, Manthan, made by Shyam Benegal 50 years ago, premiered at the Cannes Classic section. Naseeruddin Shah and others were seen walking the red carpet for it. A Hindi-language film by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov, The Shameless, starring an Indian cast, was also screened under the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Festival. It is a lesbian love story ensconced in a neo-noir revenge thriller, which spotlights the world of Indian sex workers.
Nicolas Cage's Surfer, Uma Thurman's Oh Canada, and Cate Blanchett's Rumours
Nicolas Cage starrer Surfer, a trippy psychological thriller helmed by Lorcan Finnegan, secured a 6-minute standing ovation at its midnight screening premiere. Oh Canada, a main competition film made by Paul Schrader, about a writer reflecting on his decision to avoid the Vietnam War draft by fleeing to Canada that stars Richard Gere, Jacob Elordi, and Uma Thurman received a mild 4-minute standing ovation. Out of competition, Rumours, which received a 5-minute standing ovation, is a dark comedy led by Cate Blanchett from directors Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, about a group of world leaders getting lost in the woods at the G7.
Sobhita Dhulipala and Sunanda Sharma mark their red-carpet debut
Sobhita Dhulipala and Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma, both in their striking gold and white looks, made their Cannes debut this year.
Kevin Costner's Horizon and Demi Moore's The Substance
Kevin Costner, actor, producer, co-writer, and financer of the out-of-competition Western epic Horizon: An American Saga, earned a 10-minute standing ovation for his film, which brought him to tears as he promised the audience at least three sequels. In the competition, Demi Moore/Margaret Qualley's body horror film The Substance became the only film that clocked the highest minutes—a whopping 11 minutes of a standing ovation at Cannes 2024 till now!
AR Rahman launched a docu-feature at the Bharat Pavilion
The Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman unveiled the first look and teaser of his latest venture, a groundbreaking feature documentary Headhunting to Beatboxing, directed by Rohit Gupta at the Bharat Pavilion.
