India celebrates National Technology Day on 11th May every year since 1999 dedicated to its entry in the world’s nuclear stage.
As today marks India’s 21st National Technology Day, it was first observed on 11th May 1999. This day is celebrated to commemorate the major achievements of our scientists and engineers in the field of science and technology. On May 11, 1998, Indian successfully tested nuclear bombs in Pokhran and this day was named by then PM Atal Bihari Bajpayee as a reminder of Indian’s technological inventions. The nuclear tests in Pokhran marked the entry of the country on the world’s nuclear stage and set the scene for some groundbreaking developments in its strategic programme.

Pokhran 2 was condemned by countries such as US, Britain, Germany and Japan. US imposed sanctions, European countries and Japan stopped aid. Compare this outrage to India’s image as a responsible nuclear power today. Only risk-takers go far in life ? #NationalTechnologyDay
