The first Monday in May has served us well as all eyes are on the Met Gala 2023 looks. So let’s have a look at the red carpet highlights from another night of celebrating high fashion!
New York brought us another extravagant gala this year and the theme was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. And it literally was a line of beauty as every single person who walked the carpet honored the late designer in their own way. While some went for the classic Chanel bride look, some gave tribute to his famous cat Choupette, and some were dressed in black and white to honor the two colors that he perpetually wore. Met Gala 2023 was all about showcasing Karl’s work through fashion brands like Fendi, Chanel, and his own eponymous line which helped raise funds at the Gala tonight. There were many celebrities who we missed on the carpet this year, especially Blake Lively who usually is one of the biggest highlights of the carpet every year, chose to stay at home as she is currently pregnant. But we still got to see some new and some veterans of the Met serving us this year as well.
Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer were the official co-chairs of the evening. Anna Wintour of course was the main host. There was a lot of Indian representation on the carpet as well, like Alia Bhatt, who made her debut this year, looked breathtaking in her custom gown by Prabal Gurung. Isha Ambani too was dressed in a sari-gown made by Prabal Gurung. Priyanka Chopra was twinning with her beau Nick Jonas in Valentino. Natasha Poonawalla was also one of the few who gave a tribute to Karl’s cat with her metallic gown. And in general there were also Indian culture inspired outfits on the Met, like supermodel Naomi Campbell wearing a sari made by Chanel, or actress Sienna Miller wearing a maang teeka as an accessory. But most importantly, the carpet itself, on which hundreds of celebrities walked, was made in Kerala, India by Neytt by Extraweave. It was heartwarming to see India’s influence on one of the biggest nights in the history of fashion!
