After courting endless controversies from conservative corners of the country, Lipstick Under My Burkha successfully united the women of tinseltown. Now, the #MenForLipstick too have joined the cause.
The film featuring acting powerhouses, Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma with Aahana Kumra and others, and is a female centric movie that deals with issues considered too sensitive and downright ‘culturally violating’ by the Indian Censor Board.
“Through the kaleidoscope of the veiled dreams and pulpy fantasies of these four lovable and quirky women, the film speaks of the pulsating spirit of rebellion.” That is the Wikipedia description for the movie’s plot which speaks volumes about why the movie has faced challenges when the CBFC refused to certify the film due to its bold content.
Ekta Kapoor from Balaji Motion Pictures, the film’s distributor ignited a movement through Instagram urging men to join and ‘smash patriarchy together’ with women.
The likes of Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Hiten Tejwani, Karanvir Bohra, Aamir Ali, Ken Ghosh and hundreds of men joined the #MenForLipstick movement on social media to recreate the ‘middle finger lipstick’ hand gesture and support Lipstick Under My Burkha.
The support is racking up as Balaji Motion Pictures’ Instagram account is swelling up with reposts from numerous Instagram users who are rolling up their sleeves to smash the patriarchy and spread the word!
Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Motion Pictures are stoking the fire, and it needs to be. The message is spreading and people are voicing their support for the movie that will empower millions of women to speak up for their rights and not get bogged down by 'enforced values' that society loves to dictate.
Karan Wahi, Ken Ghosh, Vibha Bhagat and many more eminent personalities and even the social media janta are joining the movement.
Kanchi Kaul and two more #MenForLipstick come together for the Lipstick Rebellion!
That is one movement I would love to be a part of!
