Not everyone has a way with words. It takes a few skilled ones to make use of words as a medium to personify their emotions even further. Here’s what Ruchika had to say!

How does poetry play a role in your life?

Poems serve as my escape; they provide me with a safe space to voice things that I would otherwise hold back on. Poems have profoundly impacted me and transformed my life. I can't express my gratitude enough.

Do you have an ideal setup that motivates your writing? Could you describe your writing process?

I don't really follow a rigid process. I believe a process can make things feel mechanical. My writing style flows freely with my emotions, drawing inspiration from my surroundings and the people around me. I write without filters, following my mood. The motivation often comes from the love and support I receive from others, as they are my true motivators.

Can you share some poems or poets that continuously inspire you?

While I might not say they inspire my style directly, I deeply admire the works of Bulleh Shah. His ability to convey profound thoughts in just a few lines resonates with me. The unexpected endings in his poems, filled with mystery and depth, consistently touch my heart and make me ponder about life.

Recently, you had a live spoken show. Could you tell us about its inception and your experience?

The live show was an incredible experience. It was a solo event that was sold out, bringing me immense excitement. Witnessing the audience laugh and cry during the show, as captured in the recordings, was surreal. People from other cities even came to attend, which was beyond my expectations. Though nervous at first, seeing the supportive crowd made it much easier to perform.

Could you elaborate on the main theme of your show and your preparation for performing to a live audience?

The show revolved around my relationships with family and others, exploring how various people and experiences have shaped my perspective and life journey. Overcoming stage fright from my childhood, I've grown to be confident on stage, understanding that our displayed confidence shapes reality. Despite feeling nervous, I focus on the pride I'll feel afterwards. I spent two months preparing for the show, as it requires considerable effort. My passion for it makes every moment worth it.

Has your social media presence influenced your writing, and would you recommend poetry enthusiasts to use these platforms?

Undoubtedly, my presence on social media, especially Instagram, has been transformative. It boosted my confidence, significantly impacting my life and even becoming a source of income. I wholeheartedly suggest utilizing social media wisely and dedicating time, hard work, and patience. It can reward you generously. This advice isn't limited to poets; anyone embarking on new ventures should share their journey online. You might not realize your strengths until your audience reveals them. Create your audience!

Do you have any advice or recommendations for those aspiring to delve into poetry?

Avoid copying others; authenticity is the key to standing out. Embrace your uniqueness. Rather than focusing on creating something that might go viral, write from your heart. Express your genuine beliefs and feelings. Keep writing, as perfection isn't the goal. Your authenticity will resonate with others. Write from the heart, not just from the mind.
