From writing, producing and bringing her visions to life, creator and musician Sejal Kumar talks about her latest release 'Intezaar'.

Not everyone gets to live their life doing what they love and admire. Some people manage to do it all and even leave a mark. One creator who has truly embraced this is Sejal Kumar. Without holding back on the good, bad, and ugly, she has been able to connect with her audience through the stories that she has to share. While people loved her fashion and DIY projects, it was her singing that caught their eye. Taking her audience through her love for music, the creator was able to create multiple EPs over the years, which were a hit amongst listeners.

Adding to her growing list of originals, Sejal released her latest track titled ‘Intezaar’ which has everyone talking. Her music embodies her emotions and personal experiences, allowing listeners to connect deeply with her work. This new release, which features her real-life partner, explores the theme of love and all its complexities. Specifically, "Intezaar" highlights the challenges of long-distance relationships and the feelings that accompany them. Sharing her own experience of bringing the song to life, Sejal Kumar sat with us!

Firstly, congrats on adding another OG song to your list! What's the song about?

Thank you so much! Intezaar is about long-distance relationships, but I wanted to focus on the hope and love that keep them alive rather than the sadness. It’s about finding joy in the wait, holding onto the connection, and believing that the distance can strengthen the bond. It’s a song that celebrates the beauty of patience and love in these relationships.

Your music journey is something your followers have loved experiencing. Would you like to share any behind-the-scenes stories about this musical journey that motivate you to keep creating new music?

This was such a complete run-and-gun project! We shot real moments, no big sets or elaborate planning—it was all about capturing the vibe in the moment. Honestly, it was a breeze to shoot, but keeping track of all the footage was a nightmare. My phone was a mess with so many takes and clips! That chaos is part of the fun, though, and it reminded me how music and visuals come together so naturally when you’re just being authentic.

What does your music-making process look like? Are there any rituals or rules you follow?

My process starts with a concept, sound, and production ideas. For Intezaar, the songwriting process was so amazing. My producer Eskay and I started by talking about what we could write about, and since he’s also in a long-distance relationship, we were just like, “Why not this?” and it clicked. The lyrics for this one are entirely written by me, which a lot of people might not know! Recording was so smooth, and we were so excited that we brainstormed the video concept and promo ideas right there in the studio. It all just came together so seamlessly.

Music has always been one of your many talents that people appreciate. While the internet has turned music into something that is measured by its ability to go viral, how do artists like you ensure that you stay true to your craft?

It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers, but I always remind myself why I started making music in the first place—it’s about telling my story and connecting with people on a deeper level. I focus on creating something that feels authentic to me, rather than chasing trends. If my music resonates with even one person in a meaningful way, I feel like I’ve succeeded.

Your songs always make you feel like you are in a movie. What kind of mood do you wish your listeners to experience while creating them?

Thank you! I’ve always wanted my music to feel cinematic because it connects so deeply with my 1MinDrama world. The storytelling, visuals, and emotions are all tied together. If you noticed, the recent 1MinDramas leading up to this release were about long-distance relationships—they were setting the stage for Intezaar. That cinematic vibe is so important to me and honestly making it a beautiful coherent project is my favourite part of this work! 

Content creation itself is a lot about patience. What did you have to wait for that felt like the wait was worth it?

Oh, there’s been so much waiting—whether it’s waiting for the right opportunities, waiting to discover my voice in music, or even waiting for self-acceptance. One big thing was finding the courage to release my original music. That intezaar taught me that good things take time, and when they happen, they feel worth every bit of the wait.

Hope! Intezaar is about believing in the beauty of patience, love, and commitment. It’s about knowing that even when things feel distant or uncertain, there’s something meaningful waiting on the other side. That hope and commitment are what make the wait worthwhile.
