Produced by YRF and starring Ranveer Singh in the pivotal role of Jayeshbhai, the Jayeshbhai Jordaar trailer looks ekdum Jordaar!
Female foeticide is still a very common occurrence irrespective of the work being done to stop this practice. But as cinema is a huge part of our culture that influences the masses maybe it can help raise awareness against this issue as well. Considering that there's already a trend of telling small-town stories at the back with comedy taking space front and center, aka social comedy films, Ranveer Singh's Jayeshbhai Jordaar looks like it belongs to the same league. The Jayeshbhai Jordaar trailer which was released today by YRF also stars Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani, and Ratna Pathak Shah in pivotal roles.
From the trailer, it looks like Ranveer Singh plays Jayeshbhai who is next in line to be the head of the village. But the problem is there's no male heir after him so when his wife, Shalini Pandey is pregnant with a second child, there's hope. Hope dies quickly though since they find out that she's carrying a girl child. This wouldn't be acceptable to Jayehsbhai's conservative parents, played by Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah because they want the girl child to be aborted. In order to save his unborn child, Jayeshbhai with his pregnant wife and elder daughter runs away. And that's where his tussle with society and his fight for equality between genders ensues!
The film looks like a colorful one with a whole lot of comedy and drama with a social message at the end. And Ranveer Singh as Jayeshbhai doesn't look like a hero but a common man who's just fighting for what he thinks is right. But it's the young actor playing his daughter who will steal the show in the trailer. Jayeshbhai Jordaar is all set to release in theatres on May 13.
