Ananya Panday’s OTT debut ‘Call Me Bae’ released on Prime Video this weekend and here’s the Janta’s verdict on the show!
Directed by Colin D’Cunha, Call Me Bae is an heiress to hustler story of Bella Chowdhary aka Bae played by Ananya Panday. Born with a golden spoon, she finds herself with nothing to her name all in the split of a night. Before she knows it, she is left to fend for herself in the city that never sleeps and here’s where her journey of self discovery begins. Along the way, she finds friends in this city who’d always have her back, a love interest and her calling as a journalist. The show also stars other notable names such as Muskkan Jafferi, Varun Sood, Gurfateh Pirzada, Vihaan Samaat, Vir Das, Lisa Mishra, Mini Mathur and Niharika Dutt all in pivotal roles. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the eight part series has been the topic of discussion on social media this weekend. Be it Bae’s stunning looks or her uncanny imitation of the Sid-Kiara wedding, there’s a lot that the audience had to discuss from the show.
For instance - a majority of the Janta saw glimpses of other iconic shows/ characters like Schitt’s Creek, Emily in Paris and Legally Blonde in Call Me Bae. Some also liked the fact that it was a light hearted no brainer. The fashion, the chemistry between the leads and the comic timing of the show has garnered a lot of attention from the audiences. Casting Vir Das as an arrogant journalist has also been a highlight of the series given that his portrayal of the character was spot on. Having said that, there were also quite a few reactions where the Janta found the story to be rather boring and unoriginal.

I fully enjoyeddddd Call Me Bae. The initial few episodes have massive shades of Schitts Creek and Two Broke Girls but all that wears out and what remains, what it’s essentially at its core, is Legally Blonde.

I was quick to judge #CallMeBae based on the first episode

The show actually takes off after Bae lands in Mumbai, and is actually a fun ride
The plot begins as Schitt's Creek, turns into Emily in Paris, ends up as The Morning Show.
But, it's extremely entertaining
Just watched #CallMeBae on @PrimeVideoIN

Light hearted fun movie. Although it addresses some serious issues specially in the climax but not like a wake up call.
For a refreshing weekend mood you can give it a try.
Call me Bae? More like call me a mix of Schitts Creek, Emily in Paris, Wake Up Sid and every possible pop-culture reference.

Call Me Bae is Emily in Paris but far well thought out show from start to end. Well implemented and showcasing the compelling aspects in an entertaining way. Worth a watch.

Call Me Bae will be an ideal 'chick flick,' which would come with free pair of stilettos and a designer purse. Imagine Gossip Girl meets The Devil Wears Prada, but somehow with even less depth. Ananya Panday, perfect fit for urban character pic.twitter.com/iI8qjjNhKS
guys, call me bae is really cute and the fashion is fashion-ing!!!!

call me bae is such a hilarious satire show on the contemporary bollywood celebs and their lives 😭

12 mins of Call me Bae and they have already parodied the ambani wedding, sidkiara and used the word breadcrumbing for a marriage. love this
— Pri (@proyearning) September 7, 2024
the makers of call me bae watched emily in paris, legally blonde and every other movie about a ditzy rich girl w selected talents and came up w an entirely unoriginal, insipid and honestly boring character

call me bae is so unserious I love it😂😂😭😭 pic.twitter.com/pdnoVimtw5

whoever casted vir das as the satirical news journalist in call me bae deserves an award, the entire show is brainrot but it’s the kind of brainrot you like

Tried watching #callmebae - dropped it at 12 minutes! Had zero expectations - show is trying to be a parody but the jokes fell flat, the acting is unbearable 💆🏻♀️

it especially hits a wall by the end because Call Me Bae isn't satisfied being the vanity project it is. it has to critique real world issues and it tackles them comically poorly. watch this only if youre not as irony poisoned as i am because it is p a i n f u l to experience 10/

Watched #CallMeBae and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 1st epi is kinda boring n artificial but from 2nd epi I started enjoying the show. It’s not something new but a common story that well executed n performed. Also loved #AnanyaPanday chemistry with Gurfateh n Muskan J was lit too
