Instagram's Notes feature update lets users add notes on Reels and posts. While it's intended to boost interaction, users have had mixed feedback about it.
Instagram is one of those platforms that frequently rolls out new features to track user preferences and improve engagement. One of the most popular recent releases is the Notes feature, which has been updated allowing users to leave notes directly on Reels and feed posts. This new feature, announced by Meta, aims to improve user interaction and make sharing thoughts and reactions easier in real-time. Previously, notes appeared at the top of the inbox or above the profile photo and lasted for about 24 hours. But after the latest update, they can be added to posts from friends, creators or brands. These notes, limited to 60 characters, will be visible for up to three days and can be seen by friends while scrolling through their feeds.
If you haven't used the new notes update, here's a guide on how
-
Open Instagram and go to a Post or Reel. Then, tap the airplane/share icon below the post.
-
If you have updated your app, you will see a “Note” icon in the options. You will find the icon at the bottom left, then choose to share with "close friends" or "followers you follow back."
-
Draft the text you want to share and post it to make it live on the selected post or Reel.
However, recently, users have not been reacting positively to these updates. They have been expressing their concerns and dissatisfaction with the changes.
Users have noticed that when a person comments on a Reel video, the Reel may still appear in your feed even if you don't follow the original account. This aims to encourage users to interact with pages that their friends are engaging with. However, people on the internet have had mixed reactions to this feature.
What makes Instagram so addictive is its personalized feed, which keeps users engaged. We may follow accounts we know, but it doesn't necessarily mean we want to see the same content they are engaging with. This change disrupts the tailored experience many users appreciate, leading to dissatisfaction. Additionally, content that one might not be interested in keeps appearing on their feed.
