Indian Army and government express a gesture of solidarity and pay tribute to the martyred Jawaans of Handwara. These soldiers lost their lives while battling to save the civillians.
An Indian army Colonel, a Major and three other security personnel lost their lives in an encounter with terrorists at a village in Handwara, Kashmir. The gunbattle began on 2nd May 2020, Saturday and continued for about 12 hours. It also resulted in the killing of two terrorists. The joint team comprised of five army personnel and a J&K police officer who reached the area and managed to rescue the civilians. The team entered the house of a civilian to prevent the hostage situation but they found out that it was already attacked by the terrorists. Heavy fire broke post that and took the lives of the Jawaans.
As reported by ANI, an Army official said, “Four Indian Army personnel including the Commanding Officer, Major of 21 Rashtriya Rifles unit along with 2 soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police Jawaan lost their lives in an encounter in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir”.
