Gul Makai brings to us Malala Yousafzai's inspiring fight for her right of education.
Gul Makai is based on the life of the revolutionary, Malala Yousafzai, who fought a brave to retain her right to education. Her story personifies the saying, 'pen is mightier than sword'. It talks about her hardships and the immense trauma she had to go through in order to give not just herself but those around her access to education.
Director H. E. Ahmed Khan has tried to get this historic story of Malala on-screen with Gul Makai. With the movie titled after her pen name for her blog for BBC, this movie focuses on the terror faced by the people after Taliban, the terror group, hijacks the small village of Mingora, near the beautiful Swat Valley of Pakistan. It also highlights the struggle Malala and other young girls had to face after this extremist group orders for a ban on girls going to school. Malala who has always been fond of knowledge and never missed an opportunity in gaining the same stands up to the terror with her father Ziauddin Yousafzai’s support. Reem Shaikh who plays the lead in the movie has delivered her best in playing the undaunting young girl. Atul Kulkarni and Divya Dutta as her parents Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai have also done an impeccable job.
