Scientist discovered 165 new species and gave five fly species scientific names paying tribute to popular Marvel favourites.
Australian scientists have discovered about 165 new species over the past year. This includes five new fly species that have need named scientifically after some Marvel favourites. The discoveries include two fish, three subspecies of bird, and even a mite that lives on a lizard, according to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
Take a look at these fly species:
The scientist said that any new discovery required a name for it to be studied further, as without a name it is nothing but invisible to science. This made way for the Marvel names to become part of the species names.
The Stan Lee fly was named so because it resembled and characteristics to the comic legend's sunglasses and a white moustache. While the Deadpool fly's head looks similar to that of the character's popular red and black mask. Apart from them, we also have the Black Widow, Loki and Thor fly. Thor's fly is Daptolestes bronteflavus, meaning blond thunder, Loki's fly is Daptolestes illusiolautus, meaning elegant deception and Black Widow's fly is Daptolestes feminategus, meaning woman wearing leather.
