President Donald Trump becomes the third president to face impeachment by the House of Representatives. He will be facing a trial in Senate which will decide if he remains in the office.
The House of Representatives called for a vote on the US President Donald Trump on two charges. One, abuse of power, for allegedly attempting to pressure Ukraine to announce investigations on Joe Biden, his Democratic rival and second, obstruction of Congress, as he allegedly withheld documentary evidence and refused to co-operate with the impeachment inquiry, reported The New York Times.
After the vote on Wednesday 18th December, Donald Trump became the third President to face impeachment after Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Trump will have to face a trial in the Senate for his presidency.
Here are the updates on the impeachment:
Speaker Pelosi said that the House will wait to send over its newly passed articles of impeachment against President Trump until the Senate establishes its rules for trial. https://t.co/u7zQtWtkFz

This now goes to Senate of 100 for trial, where Republicans have 53-47 majority. 67 votes are needed to convict and sack Trump. Unlikely.
But what’s likely is Trump’s return with a bigger majority in coming elections. Democrats have made him a martyr.
President @realDonaldTrump impeached by House of Representatives. Now over to Senate where Trump will be acquitted given 53-47 Republican majority. Meanwhile opinion polls for first time show Trump beating all Dem challengers in 2020 prez election https://t.co/EbcE8IpYX6
