Bollywood singer and composer Bappi Lahiri aka Bappi Da who brought a smile on our faces through his music breathed his last on Tuesday night
Today India lost yet another gem, we lost someone who could make a dull atmosphere lively through his music. Bappi Da, as we fondly call him won millions of hearts with his penchant for feet-tapping disco music in the 1980s and 1990s, breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital at the age of 69. Bappi Lahiri's songs were nothing short of iconic! Right from 'I am a disco dancer' to 'ooh la la' his songs will be remembered by everybody from all generations. His music was the main reason for us to put on our dancing shoes at a party! Did you know Bappi Da's real name is Alokesh Lahiri?
He composed music for dozens of movies featuring top actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, and Mithun Chakraborty. Aapke geet hamesha yaad aayengey, Bappi Da! Apart from Hindi songs he also had a run of major box office successes in Bengali films like Amar Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Aamar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, and many more. How can we forget his love for gold chains, which he often wore around his neck for luck, in fact, one gold chain which had Lord Ganesha on it even impressed Michael Jackson.
The veteran singer had a brief stint in politics. He joined the Bharatiya Janta Party in 2014 but unfortunately lost in the elections. Bappi Da's untimely demise has definitely marked the end of an era and his iconic music will never be forgotten. Though, he was known for disco-style songs where he brought orchestration and fusion of Indian music with international sounds and youthful upbeat rhythms. Today, a lot of celebrities and artists from the industry paid their tributes to the late singer and many more, let's have a look at what they have to say.
Here's what they say:
