Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra are back with Toofaan but did it create a toofaan for the janta? Let's find out!
After the massive success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the director-actor duo Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar are back with Toofaan. While Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was a biopic, Toofaan is purely a fictional story of a local gangster becoming a famous boxer. It's a movie about an underdog who faces a personal tragedy and his life is full of trials and tribulations till he reaches where he wants to be. The film stars Farhan Akhtar, Mrunal Thakur, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Agashe, and Supriya Pathak Kapoor in pivotal roles.
The story follows Aziz Ali (Farhan Akhtar), a local gangster from Dongri who gets inspiration to learn boxing from Muhammad Ali. But there are tons of hurdles, both personal and professional that he has to cross through. First and foremost is to bring in that ambition of becoming a boxer, another is to deal with this islamophobic society. While he convinces coach Prabhu (Paresh Rawal) to train him in spite of being an islamophobe and falls in love with his daughter, Ananya (Mrunal Thakur) who is his biggest support, he still has to face a ban, faith problems, and rise above all of it.
But did this story of an underdog rising above his own and society's limitations to become something in life created a toofaan for the janta? Let's find out!
