Here’s a list of things on Navratri according to him that only Gujjus know:
The Olympics:
Aditya couldn't help but jokingly refer to Navratri as “Gujju Olympics”. Talking about every Gujarati during the festivities he says, “For nine days Garba-obsessed folks act like it's their last chance to dance ever. And when the last day hits it's always, “Noooo, why does it have to end?!” I swear, Gujjus treat these nine nights like the world depends on it!” Apparently Gujaratis are so dedicated and devoted to those 9 days that they consider it like some important event in their lives which they all have to ace at.
Outfits and all the jazz
He goes on to tell us about every Gujju’s obsession with having the right outfit so that they could flaunt themselves when the Navratri festive functions arrive. He talks about how months before Navratri they go, “Yaar, weight loss karvu che” or “Chaniya choli shopping karvani che!” Because if you’re not rocking the perfect Garba-ready body and outfit, what’s even the point, right?
“Pass nu setting”
How can one ignore the complicated and infamous 'Pass nu setting' that people have to go through before being part of a garba party? Aditya highlights how securing those precious Garba passes is more important than the actual dancing itself. "Some Gujjus are basically stockbrokers, buying passes in bulk and selling them for the price of a kidney."
The real MVPs
Aditya did not miss out on talking about the people who manage to not miss any Garba sessions irrespective of the fact that they have to go to work. He calls them the real considering how they dance until 3 AM and then drag themselves to work the next day like a zombie. His pro tip for them is to call in sick with 'Garba flu'.
The creator also did not miss talking about things that people can resonate with whether they are Gujarati or not. This included the obsession with the pre and post-Navratri rituals making the festival a month-long festival. How can one not talk about the festival becoming a literal dating app for the singles? "Swipe left on Tinder, and just head to the Garba grounds. You'll find love (or heartbreak) between the dandiya circles! We can confidently say that the Garba grounds have witnessed more relationships and breakups than any other place or app." This has been a really fun set of revelations given by Aditya. We now have a better understanding of the unique Navratri experiences that resonate with Gujaratis.
