Indian fashion influencer, Ritvi Shah is one of the few content creators who collaborated with Wimbledon. In a conversation with us, she shares her experience of working on this elegant collaboration.
The world is basking in the excitement and glory of watching Wimbledon, the most popular tennis tournament in the world While the players are battling it out on the court, Indian creators are shocking the internet with their collab videos with the tournament. Indian fashion influencer Ritvi Shah was among the few creators creating content for the tennis event. She then got noticed by fans for the collaboration that saw her style an incredible saree, designed especially for Wimbledon.
Discussing this collaboration and the experience of being a part of it, Ritvi mentioned how collaborating with Wimbledon was an absolute dream come true for her as a fashion creator. "When I first received the opportunity, I was beyond excited and honoured. Wimbledon holds a special place in the world of sports, not just for its prestigious tennis tournaments but also for its rich tradition and heritage. Being able to merge the elegance of the Indian saree with the grandeur of Wimbledon was a unique and thrilling challenge.”
The video sees Ritvi in a handloom saree embroidered and painted with motifs that symbolize tennis with the pallu showcasing a large Wimbledon logo. The Wimbledon-themed saree created by Madhurya Creations is a masterpiece that beautifully blends elements from both Indian and Wimbledon's aesthetics. "The saree features motifs that pay homage to tennis champions who have left an indelible mark on the sport globally with zardozi work of elements like tennis rackets, balls, and iconic Wimbledon colors, seamlessly woven into the fabric. " It also paid homage to popular athletes like Sania Mirza, Leander Paes, Novak Djokovic and more, who are closely associated with the word tennis itself. It included every celebrated player embroidered in gold along the green border.
Ritvi recently also shared the BTS of her styling the saree and creating a montage video for the Wimbledon page. We asked her what it was like to style this and what it meant to her. And she mentioned how styling the Wimbledon-themed saree was a delightful experience, and at the same time, a huge responsibility to be able to style it right. "The saree itself tells a story through its intricate designs, so my approach was to complement its elegance and thematic elements. I focused on keeping the look elegant and sophisticated, while also ensuring that it resonated with both Indian and international audiences familiar with Wimbledon's heritage. It was about balancing tradition with modernity, which I believe is key to successful cultural crossovers in fashion.”
Although her saree look is a hit among her followers as well as the fans of the sport, we wondered if there is an ideal tennis outfit that Ritvi would create. As a fashion influencer, she did not disappoint and mentioned how her dream tennis outfit would be a blend of classic elements of tennis attire with a touch of Indian cultural flair. “I envision a chic yet functional ensemble that includes elements like a sleek, tailored jacket in Wimbledon's signature green and purple hues, paired with comfortable yet stylish pants or a skirt. Accessories would incorporate subtle nods to Indian craftsmanship, perhaps through intricate embroidery or traditional jewelry reimagined in a contemporary context.”

Sports events have expanded and taken over our social media. And what better way for them to get into this digital world than to collaborate with content creators? Indian creators have been at the forefront of major sports events over the past few years, representing and bringing the elegance of Indian culture to the global platform. Although we are no longer surprised to see these creators be part of a worldwide event, their recent alliance with Star Sports for Wimbledon has people talking.
As a fashion influencer herself, we asked Ritvi her thoughts on why major tournaments like Wimbledon have decided to onboard Indian fashion creators. According to her, Wimbledon's decision to collaborate with an Indian fashion creator reflects a broader trend towards celebrating diversity and inclusivity in global cultural exchanges. “After all, India has a rich tradition of textile artistry and craftsmanship, which resonates globally. By partnering with Indian designers, Wimbledon not only expands its appeal to diverse audiences but also acknowledges the cultural significance of Indian fashion on the world stage. It's a testament to Wimbledon's forward-thinking approach in embracing cultural diversity and innovation in fashion collaborations.”
